Dr Jessica Botfield

Jessica is a clinician-researcher with research and clinical expertise in sexual and reproductive health. She has worked as a Research Fellow with SPHERE since early 2021, and continues to provide research support to the Family Planning NSW Research Centre. Jessica is a qualitative and mixed methods researcher and has experience working in academic, non-government and clinical settings. Her research interests focus on promoting equitable access to contraception, particularly postpartum contraception, through task-sharing and nurse- and midwifery-led models of care. At SPHERE, Jessica is involved in the ORIENT trial as Project Manager, coordinates the SPHERE National Women's Sexual and Reproductive Health Coalition, chairs the SPHERE Nurse Advisory Circle, and supervises a number of Honours and PhD students. Jessica was awarded the ASHA Young Leader Award in 2018 in recognition of her contributions to sexual health, and an Emerging Leaders Fellowship with the Women’s Health Research Translation Network in 2021. Her PhD was conferred in February 2019, exploring the engagement of young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds with sexual and reproductive health care.
