EXTEND-PREFER

Unintended pregnancies and abortions can significantly impact women's lives.  Women from priority populations, which include those living in rural and remote areas and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, continue to experience poorer sexual and reproductive health outcomes.  Women from rural and remote areas are more likely to experience unintended pregnancy and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds have higher rates of abortion.

EXTEND-PREFER aims to test the impact of an educational video about contraception on the knowledge, attitudes and preferences towards contraception of young women from priority populations in Australia. This study is an extension of our previous research, the ACCORd Project and PREFER study, which demonstrated the utility of a contraceptive education video on improving women's contraceptive literacy.

Participants for this study will be recruited through social media advertising on Facebook and Instagram. They will be asked to complete a survey before and after viewing a contraceptive education video. These surveys will collect data regarding participants' attitudes towards contraception and the likelihood of choosing a contraceptive method or switching to another contraceptive method. Our findings will determine if an online approach using an educational video can improve the contraceptive health literacy and uptake of women from priority populations.
