Desireé is a NHMRC Postgraduate Scholar and PhD candidate at the Judith Lumley Centre (for mother, infant and family health research) at La Trobe University. Her PhD research focuses on refining measurement for reproductive coercion and abuse and the role of nursing care models to screen and respond. She is a public health nurse clinically accredited in sexual and reproductive health. Initially qualified in the U.S.A., Desireé has 10+ years of experience in clinical and community nursing and research within the U.S., Australia and low- and middle- income countries. Within Australia, she is experienced in the not-for-profit and government sectors promoting rural/remote and Aboriginal health in the disability and sexual and reproductive health sectors. Desireé graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with Honours from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master of Nursing/Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is supervised by A/Prof Kristina Edvardsson, Professor Angela Taft and A/Prof Leesa Hooker of SPHERE. She is also supervised externally by A/Prof Laura Tarzia (University of Melbourne).
